Happy 2011! Happy New Year! (now, about that exercise and eating right thing)

First of all, here’s wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

May 2011 be all that you need it to be (if not want it to be). How did you ring in your New Year’s anyway? For us at todo-latino, we threw a party from 21:00 to 02:00 hours and fun was had by all. There were finger foods (this really scrummy dip with olive and tomatoes and spices), to go with savoury chicken wings. Nom nom nom.

After today (Monday, January 03, 2011), the holiday eating is over, and we’ve committed ourselves to losing weight and feel great. In addition to eating less, you have to move more, so let this be the year of moving more.

Before we go on, let me insert this standard disclaimer notice: we’re not doctors, and for any major shifts in eating and lifestyle, speak to your physician.

Get it? Got it? Good.

With that in mind, how about some latin dancing ? Todo-latino (be it Top Floor, 3-9 Station Street, Nottingham) or their classes in Loughborough ) this is a great way to start the year as you mean to go on. According to this report by the BBC, salsa dancing can make you burn 200-300 calories an hour. If you want to lose weight, you have to do exercises that burn up at least 250 calories a day.

There are good articles about this, but the cliff notes version is: eat less, exercise more. In order to lose weight – if you want to lose a pound a week, you need to be burning 250 calories a day. If you want to lose two pounds a week, you will have to double that.

There are great websites that will calculate the calories for you dailburn and the daily plate.

Drink loads of water and exercise! Commit to a class to learn how to salsa, bachata, belly dance or tango, and then two more days to go to social dances and practise your skills.

For us, the studio is closed this week  (03 – 08 January, 2011) as we do touch ups,  a bit of a tidy, feed the floor, tweak the information online, and get ready to serve you better.

We begin classes on the week of January 10th, 2011. Arabic Belly Dancing and Samba is on the 20th of January, and Kizomba is back on January 13th, 2011.
